OneBeat is accepting applications for OneBeat 13 & 14, two in-person United States-based arts exchange programmes set to run April-May and September-October 2024. An initiative of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the ground-breaking New York-based music organisation Bang on a Can’s Found Sound Nation, OneBeat employs collaborative original music as a potent new form of cultural diplomacy.
OneBeat 13 & 14 will bring will bring 50 total musicians (ages 19-35) from select countries to collaboratively write, produce and perform original music, and develop strategies for arts-based social engagement. Each session begins with a residency followed by a tour. OneBeat Fellows will perform for a wide array of American audiences, collaborate with local musicians, and lead workshops with youth. After the programme, OneBeat musicians return to their home countries and communities to develop projects linked to mutually-reinforcing networks of music-driven social enterprises.
Applicants must be 19 or older by the start of the programme (1 September 2024) and 35 or younger at the end of the program (31 October 2024). All costs will be covered for OneBeat Fellows, including travel and accommodation. Fellows will also receive a modest stipend.
