JamFactory > FUSE Glass Artist Residency (Australia)

Awarded biennially in alternate years to the FUSE Glass Prize, JamFactory’s FUSE Glass Artist Residency aims to create significant opportunities for established, mid-career artists working in glass. The residency will enable a selected artist to work with skilled assistants, take risks and experiment with the development of new work using or incorporating hot blown glass.

The residency will run for up to 4 weeks at JamFactory in Adelaide between March and August 2021. Applicants may wish to propose splitting the residency into 2 x 2-week periods or a shorter more concentrated period.

A further outcome of the Residency will be a solo exhibition at Carrick Hill – the iconic South Australian heritage site, due to open impressive new purpose-built galleries in November 2020. The exhibition will launch in late 2021 and should include work created during or as a result of the Residency along with other appropriate/existing work. The exhibition will be a co-production between JamFactory and Carrick Hill with the scale and nature of the show to be determined through negotiation with the Recipient. The exhibition will be widely promoted, accompanied by a printed (and online) catalogue, an opening event and public programmes.

The Residency will include:

  • 12 four-hour glass-blowing sessions with 2 assistants.

  • Self-contained accommodation in the JamFactory apartment.

  • Provision of studio workspace.

  • Access to the cold-workshop and very basic lamp-working and kiln facilities.

  • An allowance of $2,000 to assist with living expenses.

  • Return flights and transfers or costs related to car travel to and from Adelaide.

  • Contribution towards return freight for work produced.

Applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of Australia or New Zealand and must have a demonstrated professional practice as an artist working with glass of at least 8 years.
