Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

The Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art is a public institution established in 1989 and one of the most vibrant art centres in Central and Eastern Europe. It is located in the heart of Warsaw, in a baroque palace at the edge of royal park.

The Residencies have been an important part of U–jazdowski’s programme ever since they were initiated in 2002 by Ika Sienkiewicz-Nowacka, who still oversees them today. Over the past two decades, the Residencies have hosted over 300 art professionals, curators, artists, researchers, educators, organizers, individuals and collectives, representing more than 50 countries from all over the world. The Residency Programme is run by an all-female team of three curators and two coordinators. Through residencies, the Centre fosters an environment in which meetings, relations and process-based practices are no less important than the public dimension of displaying work. Residencies are approached as a medium and a tool for artistic and curatorial work.
