On the Move is collaborating with Points of Entry to take its first leap into the world of podcasting – curating an urgent conversation about the lack of support for art workers with children and how this intersects with cultural mobility.

In this episode, Points of Entry host Katie Kheriji-Watts speaks with Hettie Judah, a journalist and critic based in London who’s authored a new book: How Not to Exclude Artist Mothers (and Other Parents). They talk about how discrimination against parenthood in the arts is an international issue, about what artists with care-taking responsibilities might need when they travel for their work, and about what cultural organisations could do to be more parent-friendly.

On the Move is in the first stages of compiling a list of international resources on the intersection of parenthood and mobility across all creative disciplines.
We are prioritising opportunities which cover, at least partially, costs related to participants’ mobility (primarily cross-border travel but also: visa fees, housing, meals, research or production grants…).
We are looking for programmes and initiatives that prioritise transparency, clear communications, and flexibility in accommodating and providing tailored support for arts workers with primary care-taking responsibilities.

Nous privilégions les opportunités qui couvrent, au moins en partie, les coûts liés à la mobilité des participant·e·s (essentiellement les déplacements transfrontaliers mais aussi : frais de visa, hébergement, repas, bourses de recherche ou de production…).
Nous recherchons des programmes et initiatives donnant la priorité à une communication claire et transparente, et à la flexibilité afin de soutenir concrètement les artistes et professionnel·le·s de la culture ayant des personnes à charge.
