We Make Books / Goethe-Institut: ‘Making Art Books in Africa?’ Networking Programme (Senegal)

African Art Book Fair

We Make Books invites independent publishers from Africa and its Diaspora to participate in a two-day programme during the African Art Book (AABF) Fair in Dakar on 19 & 20 May 2022. The programme supports the creation of a dynamic network of art publishers on the African continent and the participants are invited to become part of a group of publishers engaged in a continuous exchange on art book making in 2022 and 2023.

The programme includes:

  • Travel grant to Dakar (transport, accommodation and visa fees).
  • Presentation of the project We Make Books.
  • Participation in two events (in English and French with informal translation):
    • Panel discussion with artists and publishers, who have recently published a book followed by a moderated peer-exchange on book production with artists
    • Workshop on distribution and circulation – a moderated exchange on challenges and possibilities of book distribution on the African continent. This will lead to a longer ideathon on distribution in the beginning of 2023.
  • A table to represent your publisher / book projects.
  • Networking and exchange with other publishers.
  • Ticket to the Dak’Art Biennial.

Applications are open to publishers, artists and other book producers (such as galleries and art initiatives) from Africa or its diaspora who make or want to make art books, books with artists and artist books.
