Villa Albertine: Recanati-Kaplan Prize for Creator, Cultural Expert, or Scholar from the Arab World (USA)

Flowing yellow lines form a lattice filled with small white and orange flowers in an arabesque pattern.

Villa Albertine, in partnership with the Institut du monde arabe and the Recanati-Kaplan Foundation, is launching a new programme and prize to support artistic and intellectual exchange between the United States, France, and the Arab world.

The Recanati-Kaplan Prize will be awarded to one creator, cultural expert, or scholar in recognition of their achievements throughout their career, and in support of their proposed residency project in the United States. This project must be related to a major contemporary issue that affects both the United States and the Arab world.

A two-month residency will be offered to the winner, along with a $15,000 grant. The residency will take place in one of Villa Albertine’s ten cities in the US: Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; New York, NY; New Orleans, LA; San Francisco, CA; and Washington, DC. The resident will develop their project in conjunction with the region and the locals living in their chosen city.

Villa Albertine will cover programme-related travel and living expenses through the following arrangements:

  • A residency stipend for daily living expenses, calculated according to the local cost of living (e.g. $100 per day in New York).
  • Round-trip travel to the US from the resident’s home country.
  • Accommodation.
  • Car rental, if necessary, depending on the proposed location.
  • Health, civil liability, and repatriation insurance.

Applications are open to any creator, cultural expert, or scholar from the Arab world proposing an original research project in the realm of arts and ideas that would require an immersive visit to the United States. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and hold the nationality of one of the following countries: Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, or Yemen.
