The City of Gothenburg invites artists and artist groups to participate in the international selective tendering process for one of the biggest infrastructure and urban development projects in the city’s history: the West Link. Work will be conducted in collaboration with the project’s architects and engineers and will go on until 2026, when the West Link is expected to be completed.

Hybrida Artist-in-Residency programme will take place for 4 weeks online and 2 weeks on location in Älvsbacka in the west of Sweden. Rendering the creative process and its stages within this hybrid format, Hybrida aims to explore diverse ways of ‘reading & writing’ art content and the topologies that this approach can generate.

The Post Social Media Club is a collaborative research project that explores and speculates on alternative digital futures. Multidisciplinary artists from Sweden, Greece, Serbia, France and Turkey can apply to participate in a series of expert-led design masterclasses, followed by a week-long production-based residency/hackathon, and ending in five simultaneous exhibitions across Europe showcasing alternative futures. Activities run May - September 2021.

In 2021, the Alpine Fellowship will grant four awards for the best responses in academic writing, theatre, visual art and writing to the theme ‘Untamed: On Wilderness and Civilization’. Winners and a number of runner-ups will be invited to attend the Fellowship’s annual symposium in Fjällnäs, Sweden.

The Translation in Motion consortium of translation residencies invites applications by literary translators working from or into the languages of the countries of the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia). Translation in Motion is a programme that aims to enrich and intensify the flow of translated literature in contemporary Europe, and specifically between the Western Balkans countries and the EU member states. Applications till 30 April 2021 (check carefully the calls related to each organisation as some deadlines may be before like for Bulgaria).

The Octopus Programme is a guided research-based educational programme that encourages artistic research across sectors. The call for the next phase of the programme is open to all Diploma Students, Master’s and PhD students at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design Stockholm, as well as artists from or based in South Africa, Palestine and Tunisia. Applicants should have oral and written proficiency in English and be able to travel abroad twice between June 2021 and June 2022 (5 to 7 days).

The Residence Scholarship for the World Heritage site Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland (Hälsingegårdar) is aimed at individuals who have an idea related to the UNESCO World Heritage List and who are interested in the Decorated Farmhouses site in connection with other world heritage sites. Residencies last one month and can take place between April and November.

Landskrona Foto’s residency programme is an opportunity for a non-Swedish photographer or artist working with photography and/or lens-based media to have time and space away from their usual environment and obligations. The residency takes place over six weeks, from May 2021. Applicants are asked to present a project proposal, and are encouraged to engage in a project related to Landskrona.

The Swedish organisation Art Inside Out is offering a residency with the theme ‘Other choreographies, new spaces’, based on the concept of critical tourism.

In 2020, the Alpine Fellowship Theatre Prize will be awarded for the best playwriting response to the theme ‘Forgiveness and Retribution’. The Prize is aimed at encouraging theatre writers at the start of their careers to explore and challenge philosophical ideas using the dramatic form. A winner and several runners up will be invited to attend the Fellowship’s annual Symposium in Fjällnäs, Sweden. The Prize is open to theatre writers from around the world above 18 years of age. Deadline (extended): 15 April 2020.

The AIRY programme invites a ceramic artist, a sound artist and an author working in visual narrative (graphic novels, illustrated books, comics, etc.) to stay at one of three inspiring rural locations in Sweden’s Region Västernorrland. Applications are welcomed from both emerging and established artists and authors. Deadline: 22 March 2020.
