Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 (Lithuania) in cooperation with Liebling Haus – The White City Center (Tel Aviv) has announced an open call for artistic residencies in modernist cities. The organisers are looking for multidisciplinary artists whose projects would be based on locally conducted artistic research (for at least 7 days between 1 May - 30 July 2021), leading to a site-specific interpretation of the cultural heritage in Kaunas and Tel Aviv.

Walking Landscapes connects art and nature in a programme of 130 artistic walks through different Danish landscapes in the period June to October 2021. The organisers are looking for artists who have a strong connection to the participating municipalities (Bornholm – Frederikshavn, Skagen, Nykøbing Falster, Guldborgsund, Randers, Roskilde, Silkeborg, Vejle, Viborg, Vordingborg / Møn, Aabenraa, Aalborg, Aarhus) to create 12 hour walks that include a participatory element.

The Endangered Landscapes Artist Residencies and Arts Prize will select eight artists, or collectives, to be in residence in eight endangered landscapes: Cairngorms Connect (Scotland, UK), Carpathian Mountains (Romania), Danube Delta, Gökova Bay to Cape Gelidonya (Turkey), Greater Côa Valley (Portugal), Iori River Valley (Georgia), Polesia (Belarus & Ukraine), Summit to Sea (Wales, UK). Applicants should have a demonstrable link to one of the countries of their chosen landscape and ideally a link to the landscape itself.

The 20th edition of ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival will take place 14-19 September 2021 in Kuopio, Finland. The organisers are inviting artists, working in any field, to propose projects that directly engage with the theme of gifts and giving. Proposed projects must respond to the festival’s focus on public space (including interior and privately owned spaces). (ANTI does not show projects in traditional cultural spaces.)

As part of the Creative Europe project ‘Modernism for the Future 360/365’, artist-researchers of any discipline from Lithuania, Czech Republic, Belgium or Ukraine can apply for site-specific residencies at a number of modernist buildings. The developed projects will be presented during a final exhibition in Kaunas for its inauguration as European Capital of Culture in 2022.

Established in 1980, Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest’s artist in residence programme annually awards visual artists the opportunity to live and create site-specific work inspired by an experience of total immersion in the natural environment. Residencies normally last between 5-6 weeks, and can be up to two months, with dates arranged with Bernheim. Individuals or small teams may apply.

Gallery +359 is located in the building of a preserved water tower in Sofia, Bulgaria. Its residency programme provides a working stay in Sofia, lasting 2-4 weeks, for a foreign visual artist to create a site-specific project for the water tower space. The residency will take place June / July 2021.

IntraRegionale are seeking eleven sound art artists to realise eleven sound art installations at eleven places within the region of Hannover, Germany. The sites include a multi-storey car park, a recycling yard, a monastery, and a network of narrow footpaths spanning a small village. The installations need to be installed between 1 May – 6 June 2021 and will be open to the public 6 June – 18 July 2021.

Little Islands Festival | Moving Image & Sound seeks to connect the landscape and nature with man and art by initiating an exploration of their natural and imaginary boundaries. The site-specific open call under the name ‘Living Environments’ is looking for artists of all nationalities who are experimenting with new forms of audiovisual arts and media – such as projection mapping, multimedia/interactive installation, VR, performance – for the next festival from 21-25 August 2021.

Liberty UK Leicester is an annual interdisciplinary festival that explores freedom and democracy through a range of artistic projects and public interventions. For 2021, Liberty UK will be exploring the hidden inequalities and injustices within our communities, exploring the freedoms and perceived freedoms that we have, that we don’t have and those that we take for granted. The festival will explore how far we have come, but how far we have left to go in building an equal and fair society. Liberty UK is produced and presented by ArtReach.
