New Horizons Leadership Programme for Emerging Contemporary Circus Project Managers and Producers

A three-peak circus tent, striped dark blue and teal, stands against a dusky orange sky.

New Horizons Leadership Programme (NHLP-EU) is a leadership programme led by Cirkus Syd, Rigas Cirks and DYNAMO.

The 10 month programme (September 2023 - June 2024) is aimed towards capacity building for emerging project managers and producers to support the growing scene of contemporary circus within Europe. Through NHLP-EU emergent and confident persons are able to develop their leadership capabilities within the field and become ready to take on tomorrow’s challenges as producers, artistic directors, project managers, dramaturgs, executive directors, technical producers, tour managers, board members, and organisational development functions.

NHLP-EU are searching for 10 individual fellows from across Europe to participate in the programme, who will be matched with 10 experts from the circus field in Europe.

The fellows and experts will meet live in person at the NHLP-EU kick-off in Lund, Sweden on 7-8 September 2023, which is also the official start of the 10 month programme.

Fellows will receive a handbook to work with over the next 10 months, and will be required to attend a monthly digital event which includes a seminar and discussions on a leadership cross-cutting topic. The fellows and experts will agree on a 3 week period when the fellow will travel to shadow the expert at their workplace in another country.

The fellows will be required to share their learning and thoughts informally on the NHLP-EU digital platform in formats of their own choice.

To be eligible applicants must have demonstrated experience of working with contemporary or classical circus, and be based in a country within Europe (according to the Council of Europe’s list of member countries).

Each participant will get a €2250 bursary to participate in the programme. The bursary should be used to support any extra expenses the individual requires to participate which are not covered by the programme such as, but not exclusive to, digital tools, fees, visas etc. In addition to the bursary fellows will also receive travel and accommodation bursaries to attend the events and shadow experiences.
