European Digital Deal is now calling on artists interested in exploring the deep entanglement between new technologies and democracy to apply for one of 12 residencies. Applicants can individuals or groups.

Highlight Delft, iii and VPInstruments are looking for artists who would like to participate in a residency programme at a sensor company. This first open call is hosted by VPInstruments – a company that specialises in highly accurate measurement and mapping of air and gas flows. The residency will take place October 2023 – January 2024, with a final presentation at Highlight Festival on 15-17 February 2024.

Using Tool Sheds as a point of departure, this year Nieuwe Instituut’s Call for Fellows invites applicants to conceptualise, design and test applied research tools, instruments, methods, formats and processes for generative world-building using material, theoretical, political, time-based or place-based sets of practices.  There is no age limit for applicants. Individuals and collectives from all places of residence are invited to apply.

S+T+ARTS AIR is launching a new S+T+ARTS residencies programme focused on two main themes: Resilient Interspecies Urban Ecosystems and Human AI Ecosystems. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents in Member States of the European Union and its Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) or Associated Countries to Horizon Europe.

AIR on the Edge is a one-month international artist residency exchange that creates opportunities for artists to engage with rural communities on the edges of Europe. Applicants must live or work in County Galway (Ireland), Fryslan (The Netherlands), Novi Sad (Serbia), Pirkanmaa (Finland), or Ringkøbing-Skjern and mid Jutland area (Denmark). Residencies will take place between September 2023 and June 2024.

Artists from all arts disciplines are invited to apply for an Art Futures Fellowship. The Fellowship includes a two-month residency at Space for International Cooperation in Athens, Greece during the months May and June 2024, and a two-month residency at Dat Bolwerck in Zutphen (Netherlands) during mid-September-mid November 2024.

Frame is seeking candidates for two fellowships in 2023–2024: the Curating with Pasts fellowship hosted by the Queens Museum in New York City, and Soils, organised with Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. Both fellowships involve 4 months of work time, between autumn 2023 and spring 2024.

Theatre in Palm, an international project funded by Creative Europe, is hosting a Hybrid Residency on 6–17 November 2023. During the 2-week residency you will work with 10 local artists and 20 international artists, both live and online. The residency will end with 4–12 co-produced, new theatre pieces that are shared online with the whole group of 120 artists, plus 12 mentors, and the rest of the online world. Applicants must be resident in EU countries.

European artists, or collectives can apply to the EMAP residency programme with a project proposal for a residency of two months in 2024. The artists will be collaborating with an artist of their choice or an artist local to the platform’s host institutions.

The artist-in-residency programme Hydromedia: Seeing With Water proposes to sidestep conventional visual approaches to global warming. Artists and experimental photographers are invited to submit a proposal to develop innovative and hands-on tools during a one-month residency in October 2023 at the Utrecht University of the Arts (HKU) and in their own studio in the months thereafter. Applicants must be active visual artists currently living and working in Europe and/or possess the nationality of one of the countries in the European Union.

Destination Unknown is a nomadic non-profit organisation that offers a working period for young artists in locations which are temporarily vacant. Artists are invited to react on the environment of the location with creative site-specific ideas and interventions. DU2023 will take place in the former Philips factory in Roermond, with the working period starting 1 July 2023 and an exhibition scheduled for 29 September - 1 October 2023.
