TORIGOYA Project is an artist-in-residence programme run by the Hirono Town in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. Invited artists will stay in Hirono Town for a total of 30 days between 11 December 2023 – 15 January 2024 to research the history, climate, culture or some other factor of Hirono Town and create their own site-specific artworks in collaboration with town residents

Fukuoka Asian Art Museum is calling for artists to participate in its artist in residence programme 2023. 4 artists or groups from abroad will be invited for a residency of maximum of 90 days between July and December 2023 or for a maximum of 60 days between January and March 2024.

Paradise Air has held the Longstay Program under various themes and with different application requirements. The 10th edition of the program – under the theme ‘Puzzling Poly+Semy’ – is open to all people of all nationalities working in the arts field. The application will take place in two phases, with a shortlist of finalists invited to create a ‘video letter’ in early 2023 and final selected artists invited for a residency of 70-90 days in Matsudo, Japan.

Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio’s AIR programme aims to support art collectives/groups creating and exhibiting new artworks/projects taking Sapporo/Hokkaido as a starting point for various types of research; for example, learning folk knowledge, field research or engaging with local people. Two collectives/groups of artists who are mainly active in the art field will be selected for a residency from 12 October – 30 November 2022.

Tokyo Festival Farm is a new framework that brings together all development initiatives within Tokyo Festival, a festival for performing arts. Among its activities are two programmes open to applicants based in Asia: the Farm-Lab Exhibition, which will bring a group of emerging talents together, online and in Tokyo, to create a new performing arts production (September - October 2021), and the Asian Performing Arts Camp, an online programme of collective research.

Aomori Contemporary Art Centre’s artist residency programme offers contemporary artists, curators, researchers and others who are involved in cultural and artistic endeavours the opportunity to practice exhibitions, performances, workshops, talks and other activities. Non-Japanese artists can apply either for a one-month artist-in-residence programme in Japan during the period from 8 September – 14 December 2022, or a remote programme with a maximum period of around three months.

The PATH-AI (Privacy, Agency, and Trust in Human-AI Ecosystems) residency programme will support three artists to develop new works within a 6-month remote residency programme, from March-August 2022, with final works presented by Somerset House in 2022. Applications are invited from artists in any international location and from any discipline.

Beppu Project are calling for collaboration projects in which domestic artists and foreign artists cooperate online. The residency will run for 30 days from 11 January – 14 February 2022 and is open to pairs consisting of a domestic (Japanese nationality and residence) artist who stays in Beppu during the programme and a foreign (non-Japanese nationality and residing outside Japan).

The Saison Foundation’s Online Research Residency is open to individual artists working in the field of contemporary dance and performance art who are able to communicate in English, and who are able to carry out creative research between 10 November 2021 – 10 February 2022. The programme offers artistic development opportunities to research and spend time building links with the other participating artists.

Various residency periods are available between September and December 2021, divided into two-week blocks. Applications are open to individuals and groups, and to curators, researchers, artists, and others engaged in artistic pursuits.
