The ‘Intermix Residency | Art & Fashion Reimagined’ programme is the first multi-disciplinary residency to be launched by Saudi Arabia’s Visual Arts Commission and Fashion Commission and will be held in the creative and historical district of Ad Diriyah, located in the nation’s capital of Riyadh. The programme includes a series of two fully funded residency cycles that offer visual artists and fashion designers the opportunity to collaborate in an experimental environment to support creative development and skill set expansion.
The Intermix Residency | Art & Fashion Reimagined programme will empower visual artists and fashion designers through creative experiences that promote and celebrate a shared creative visual language. The programme will highlight the expressive potential between visual arts and fashion design by engaging across three themes that speak to today’s world: innovation, transformation, and sustainability.
The second cycle of the residency programme will run virtually from 4-18 December 2022 and on-site from 4 January - 28 February 2023. It is open to Saudi and international emerging and mid-career visual artists and fashion designers over the age of 18 who are interested in integrating the art of materiality, fibre/textile into their practice and/or initiating research on the creative connection between visual arts and fashion design. Each cycle will include a total of 13 practitioners.
The residency programme offers the following:
- Shared accommodation in close proximity to the studios.
- A dedicated studio space.
- Shared facilities include dyeing, weaving and sewing workshop stations and a screen printing facility.
- Round trip ticket to and from Riyadh.
- Fixed stipends to cover personal and living expenses for the duration of the programme.
- Fixed production grant.
