The fifth edition of Film:ReStored, a festival dedicated to film heritage, will take place 27 October – 1 November 2020 at the Filmhaus in Berlin. The event will have a European focus, exploring challenges and solutions for European archives and film heritage institutions. The organisers invite proposals for lectures, workshop reports and film programmes from applicants in EU member states. Deadline: 1 April 2020.

Goethe-Institut in South East Asia is funding a three-month residency at LIA-Leipzig International Art Programme, running 2 November 2020 - 29 January 2021. The residency includes the production of one print theme at the Atelier für Radierung Maria und Vlado Ondrej etching studio, and works towards a South East Asia print publication. Applicants do not need to be working in the field of print making, however; training will be provided. The residency is open to artists living or working in Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore or Vietnam. Deadline: 31 March 2020.

Since summer 2011, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research – PIK has been using the building of the former photographic refractor as a studio for visiting artists and a place where scientists and artists can come together. Applications for the 2020 residency are welcome from international contemporary artists working in a wide range of disciplines including visual art, film, literature, music/sound, curating, design and theory. The residency will take place for a three-month period from September to November 2020. Deadline: 8 March 2020.

The Internationales Bildhauer-Symposium is an annual sculpture symposium held in St Blasien, Germany. Over one week international artists gather to create wooden artworks, which are then auctioned off on the last day to pay for next year’s event. Sculptors are invited to apply for support to attend the event, which will take place 30 August - 6 September 2020. Deadline: 17 April 2020.

The IASS – the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies in Potsdam, Germany is currently seeking nominations for the 2020 Klaus Töpfer Sustainability Fellowship. Applicants may come from academia, politics, civil society, business, and the arts, but must have worked for at least ten years on sustainability issues and have the potential to serve as change agents towards sustainable development. The selected applicant will undertake a year-long fellowship at the Institute. Deadline: 24 February 2020.

The Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) is inviting applications for fellowships during the academic years 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. This interdisciplinary programme - covering the fields of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering and the Arts - gives participants the intellectual freedom in which to pursue their own projects. Established scholars, promising emergent early career researchers as well as musicians and visual artists are eligible for application. Deadline: 15 March 2020.

Launched in 2006, the Moritzburg Festival Academy is an annual event that selects young musicians from all over the world to participate in an intensive training programme and form the international Moritzburg Festival Orchestra. The 2020 edition will take place 2-16 August 2020 at Moritzburg Castle in Germany. Open to music students aged between 16 and 26 years in the following instrument groups: Strings; Woodwinds and Brass (except Tuba); Timpani (only for orchestra); and Piano (for chamber music only). Deadline: 2 March 2020.

Think Big 2020 is a residency programme in Hanover for young choreographers. The programme will offer three residencies for young choreographers, in order to promote upcoming talent and to support new creations in the field of dance. The programme responds to the trend in Germany towards independent productions involving very few dancers by encouraging choreographers to meet the challenge of creating works incorporating larger groups. The residency programme consists of various workshops from April/May to beginning of September 2020. Deadline: 21 February 2020.

Forecast offers artists and creative thinkers from anywhere in the world the chance to work with accomplished mentors toward bringing their projects to fruition. Open to all disciplines and genres, the scheme will see 18 applicants selected to present their ideas in Berlin during the Forecast Forum, 13-19 July 2020. 6 will then be selected to present at Forecast Festival, 9-10 April 2021. Deadline: 1 March 2020.

Launched in 2016 by the World Photography Organisation and ZEISS, the ZEISS Photography Award challenges photographers to submit bodies of work responding to a particular theme. The theme for 2020 is ‘Seeing Beyond – Discoveries’.
