Each year the Everyday Forms of Resistance programme offers residencies for six visual artists, using the medium of cultural exchange to reflect on the role of artistic practice and mobility in the specific circumstances of Ramallah and Palestine. Artists from Belgium, Finland, and Poland can apply for a three-month residency in Ramallah (June - August 2020). Palestinian artists can apply for three-month residencies in Warsaw (June - August 2020), Antwerp (July - September 2020) or Helsinki (September - November 2020). Deadline: 31 January 2020.

The European Cultural Foundation, Rijeka 2020 European Capital of Culture, Krytyka Polityczna, and ZEMOS98 are inviting applications for participation in Culture Lab Europe, which will take place 16-18 April 2020 in Rijeka, Croatia. The Lab is for cultural activists and mediators engaged in initiatives that create spaces for solidarity and public debate. Deadline: 31 January 2020.

Sounds of our Cities is a European cultural cooperation project organised by City of Roeselare, Dear Hunter, Aalborg University, and Idensitat. It aims to explore urban areas by focusing on the local, engaging local audiences to reflect on cultural identity in relationship with community.

The Artists Development Programme (ADP) is a residency and mentorship programme in Luxembourg organised by the European Investment Bank Institute. The ADP offers emerging European visual artists under the age of 35 the opportunity to develop their practice in a high quality professional context without any material constraints. It involves the creation of an art project under the mentorship of an internationally renowned artist – for 2020, Finnish photographer Jorma Puranen – during a residency of 6-8 weeks.

The 15th edition of the international festival Presente Futuro will take place 14-16 May 2020. Organised by Teatro Libero of Palermo, the festival includes several awards for young/emerging contemporary creation in the field of the performing arts (theatre, dance, dance theatre, physical theatre, performance). The organisers are calling for artists, companies and teams coming from the EU – and preferably under 35 – to propose a performing arts project not shorter than 20 minutes for the festival. Once a year, Austria's Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen invites visual and media artists, art critics, theorists, and curators to apply for a fellowship of at least five months. The 2020–2021 fellowship will take place in the period 5 October 2020 – 12 June 2021. The programme is based on the idea of generating and maintaining a context for production and discussion in which artists and theorists can connect and reflect on international art and societal discourses in relation to local topics and issues. Kunstraum Lakeside, a contemporary art space in Klagenfurt, Austria, is inviting artists and cultural practitioners to participate in its 2020 programme by submitting their own ‘Statement’. The organisers are looking for performative pieces that relate to the open call topic, ‘Format’, while experimenting with modes of representation in the visual arts in the context of an institution at the interface between art, science, and technology. Deadline: 23 February 2020.

Bora Bora Residency Centre welcomes proposals from professional dance artists for projects to be researched and/or developed for the 2020-21 season (August 2020 to June 2021). There are six residencies open to professional dance artists, dance ensembles, or stage directors with a strong choreographic idea, coming from anywhere in the world. Deadline: 31 January 2020.

ECHANGEUR 22 is a non-profit association that supports emerging contemporary artists working in the visual arts. The sixth edition of its residency programme will take the theme of Mobility, and will bring together one French artist, one Japanese artist, one Brazilian artist, and three South Korean artists living and working in Daejeon. The residency will take place over 6-8 weeks, May – July 2020. Deadline: 15 February 2020.

Launched in 2016 by the World Photography Organisation and ZEISS, the ZEISS Photography Award challenges photographers to submit bodies of work responding to a particular theme. The theme for 2020 is ‘Seeing Beyond – Discoveries’.

Radar Sofia, an artist-run residency programme, and Drama Pact, a contemporary dramaturgy platform, are looking to support the beginning of a new artistic project. One playwright / dramaturg / theatre, dance or performance maker will be invited to Sofia to develop the beginning of a piece reflecting critically on a topic related to the 30-year anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, the collapse of communism, and the neoliberal consensus that followed across unified Europe and beyond.
