MDD and MORPHO present a Writing Residency at Woning Van Wassenhove between 24 November - 22 December 2023. This residency allows an artist to further their writing practice. The call is open to any applicant over 18 years of age legally permitted to travel and reside in Belgium for the duration of the residency.

Using Tool Sheds as a point of departure, this year Nieuwe Instituut’s Call for Fellows invites applicants to conceptualise, design and test applied research tools, instruments, methods, formats and processes for generative world-building using material, theoretical, political, time-based or place-based sets of practices.  There is no age limit for applicants. Individuals and collectives from all places of residence are invited to apply.

Musea Brugge is looking for programmers to develop an artistic programme for its new BRUSK exhibition hall. BRUSK will open its doors with a festival running from 18 October 2025 – 8 May 2026 (weekends and holidays only).

Les Lundis d’Hortense organises a whole range of activities, including more than 100 concerts per season. They currently have several calls for concert series and touring activities in Brussels and Wallonia during 2024.

The Digital Flying Carpet is calling for artists’ proposals. The Digital Flying Carpet is a project by Women Connected (WOCO) in collaboration with V2_Lab for the unstable media, Rotterdam. If your project is selected, you will work in collaboration with WOCO and V2_ on a digital dimension to WOCO’s acclaimed project The Flying Carpet, during the spring and summer of 2023.

So What’s Next? is a three-day music festival with ground-breaking concerts of jazz & beyond artists. Jazz is the starting point but surely not the only frame of reference. The next edition will take place from 28-30 October 2022 at venues in Eindhoven, Netherlands. The organisers are seeking artists for the festival’s Downtown 2022 showcase.

The concept of ‘freedom’ is heavy with meaning. Everyone interprets it differently and it is informed by the world of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar is inviting artists to propose a work of art that gives a contemporary interpretation of the concept of ‘freedom’. Shortlisted artists will exhibit proposals in October, ahead of one being selected for a full commission.

Belgium’s Watou Arts Festival’s research project ‘Patchwork’ runs in parallel with the main festival event. The organisers are calling for professional artists and final year bachelor or master arts students (any discipline) to join a collective research process (either 12-15 July 2022 or 16-19 August 2022). Following the research, selected participants will receive a grant to realise a project for the 2023 festival. Individuals or collectives (maximum 3 people) from any country can apply.

Het Nieuwe Instituut’s Network Archives Design and Digital Culture invites applications for a Research Residency taking place over the three-month period September-November 2022. This residency invites researchers, theorists, artists, designers, developers, archivists and others with an affinity for the field(s) to critically examine the potential of networked infrastructures for archival practices in design and digital culture.

The Goethe-Institut and Bozar together with Werkplaats Walter in Belgium and the Amman Jazz Festival in Jordan are looking for six motivated emerging professional musicians from both the Arab World and Europe to meet, exchange ideas and perform in Brussels (Belgium) from 20-25 May 2022. The concept of the residency programme is to focus on free improvisation, experimentation, real live exchange of musical ideas.

Open Sites is a cross-border cooperation between three territories on either side of the French-Belgian border: Ypres, Comines-Warneton, and Villeneuve d’Ascq. The project now seeks submissions from artists or groups (max. 3 people) who would like to undertake a residency at one of the sites and create original work that responds to the place and an accompanying theme. Residencies take place during May-July and September-October 2022.

Reiefestival is a new arts festival that connects heritage and history with contemporary performing arts. The festival takes place at various open-air locations on and around the Bruges canals and will run over several days in August 2023. Professional creators/artists who are active in the broader arts field in one or more stage-related artistic disciplines are invited to apply with projects responding to Bruges heritage and the theme of faith.
