As part of its 2020 residency programme, the VR arts festival VRHAM! is looking to host two teams (one international) who are currently developing a groundbreaking and innovative VR-/AR-/XR-project. Residencies will take place 31 May – 4 June 2020. The presentation of the works will then take place during the opening weekend of VRHAM!, 5-8 June 2020. Deadline: 12 April 2020.

V2_, Lab for the Unstable Media is an interdisciplinary centre for art and media technology in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). Its Summer Sessions are short-term international art and technology residencies for emerging artists and designers, taking place at institutions in six countries. Residencies last approximately eight weeks and take place between June and September. Applications are open to artists from the sponsoring countries: Taiwan, Spain, South Korea, Croatia, China, and Argentina. Deadline: 1 May 2020.

The Goethe-Institut Glasgow, the Alliance Française Glasgow and the Institut Français d’Ecosse invite contemporary artists based in France or in Germany to apply for one of two residencies taking place in Edinburgh and Glasgow from 1 June to 5 July 2020. The aim of the programme is to contribute to the interdisciplinary discourse between artists and partners around the topic of Artificial Intelligence. Deadline: 25 March 2020.

Organised by Kyber Theatre, the 7th Edition of the International Theatre, Art and New Technologies Festival ‘The Wonders of Possible’ will take place in Cagliari, Italy during November 2020. The current open call, addressed to Italian and international artists, is for projects on the topic of ‘Interaction between arts and technology’. Participation is open to artists working individually, or in a group of maximum 5 people. Deadline: 15 May 2020.

The media art collective THIS IS FAKE are accepting applications for a one-month artist residency in Zeitz, Germany in September 2020. The residency is aimed at artists who wish to work on a joint exploration of various aspects of virtual reality. Deadline: 1 April 2020.

In partnership with Samsung, Niio (a company working in digital art curation and display) invites moving image artists from around the world to submit artworks to power the global unveiling of Samsung The Wall (4K visual display, 3.23m x 1.81m). The theme for the competition is ‘Digital Realism’. In addition to cash prizes, the winning artist will receive a round-trip to the unveiling. Deadline: 30 March 2020.

Konvent, a not-for-profit arts organisation based in a former convent in Cal Rosal, Spain. Its residency programme allows creators in the areas of visual arts, performance, literature, video, photography, sound art, music, new media, gastronomy, science and technology to undertake a research and creation project. Residencies last 1-2 weeks, taking place within the period 29 June – 9 August 2020. There are no restrictions on age or nationality. Deadline: 29 March 2020.

The AI for Good Global Summit is looking for artists working with or around the topic of AI. Applicants may stem from disciplines such as interactive art, performance, computer animation, film, and visual effects, digital communities and social media, hybrid art, data art, and sculptural art. The artwork or performance will be presented at the Summit in Geneva, 4-8 May 2020. Deadline: 29 February 2020.

En 2019, le Kaohsiung Film Festival, NewImages Festival et le Bureau Français de Taipei se sont associés pour créer la toute première résidence de création VR franco-taïwanaise. Reconduite en 2020 pour une deuxième édition, la Taiwan VR Residency est une expérience inédite offerte à un.e jeune artiste VR français ou résidant en France. Date limite : 20 avril 2020.

Digital Lab Africa, a platform for creative innovation in Africa, has launched a call for projects that targets artists, producers, designers, start-ups, and students in the media and creative industries. This call is open to anyone from Sub-Saharan Africa having an innovative project falling into one or more of five categories: digital art, immersive realities, video games, animation, and music. Selected applicants receive tailored mentorship/training, as well as residency time and travel support. Deadline: 1 March 2020.
