COAL

With the COAL Prize 2023 - Plant!, COAL invites artists from all over the world to sow the seeds of creation and action, and to germinate new research and experimentation, so that an inventive and resilient plant-based way of thinking can flourish in the world to come. There are a number of prizes granting residencies with partner institutions in France.

While the United Nations proclaimed the Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development 2021-2030, the COAL Prize 2022 invites artists from around the world to explore these submerged universes to make them accessible to as many people as possible. The winner of the Prize will be awarded a grant and benefit from an (optional) residence run by the Museum of Hunting and Nature at the Belval Domaine in France.

After a 2020 edition under the theme of Biodiversity, the COAL Prize dedicates its 2021 edition to the crucial issue of forests as the centre of the climate crisis and ecological transition. In addition to a grant the winner of the Prize will receive an artist residency at the Museum of Hunting and Nature at the Belval Domaine, property of the François Sommer Foundation, in France.
