SEAΔ is a programme co-created by Mekong Cultural Hub and British Council that creates space for cultural practitioners to reflect on how their work in arts and culture can contribute to sustainable development within South East Asia through their individual and collective leadership. The focus area for 2020-2021 is ‘Biotrade’. The programme has four stages, with gatherings taking place in countries in South East Asia between November 2020 and September 2021. 10 Fellows will be selected from 10 countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The National Library of Singapore invites applications for the Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship programme, a six-month residential fellowship to research valuable historical materials, dating from the 16th century, on Singapore and Southeast Asia in the collections of the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library and the National Archives of Singapore. Two areas of invited research are the development of the arts in Singapore and Singapore contemporary literature from the 1950s. Deadline: 15 May 2020.

DongGang International Photo Festival will be held this year from 10 July to 27 September 2020 in Yeongwol, South Korea. Photographers are invited to submit their work for the festival. One artist or collective will be nominated as Artist of the Year and 10 to 20 additional artists will be selected to have their work featured in a year-long exhibition that exposes their work at the DIPF Festival. The Artist of the Year will be supported to attend the opening. Deadline: 5 May 2020.

First organised in 2011, the Lih Pao International Sculpture Biennial Awards returns in 2021 and invites sculptors from around the world to submit work on the theme of Infinity. Applications are evaluated in multiple rounds, with a number of the eventual prize winners invited to attend the final ceremony in Taipei. Participants must be under the age of 50, and the submitted work must be created out of materials suitable for permanent exhibition. Deadline: 30 October 2020.

The Young Yan Artists Residence Programme is a project of Yan Concept Limited, a creative brand working at the intersection of art and architecture. The next residency will take place July – December 2020 at Yan Garden in Dongguan, China. The current call is open to artists aged under 35 who are practising contemporary art in any form. Applicants should also have a desire to develop a career in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the capacity to work on a residency project based on the local environment and context. Deadline: 15 May 2020.

The third round of Art Jameel Commissions aims to support the production of a digital artwork that will live online, on the Jameel Art Centre website, for audiences to engage with, regardless of where they may be, from autumn/winter 2020 to 2021. The theme of the commission is TIME. It is open to artists of any nationality or age who have links to, and a grasp of, the environmental and cultural nuances of the wider Middle Eastern region. Artists may be from or based in the Middle East, North Africa or Turkey – either living in the region or diaspora – and/or engaged in contributing to the various cultural scenes of the region. The Pier-2 Artist-in-Residence Programme (PAIR) is run by Pier-2 Art Center, a harbourside facility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. For 2021, the organisers are organising the programme around the theme of ‘Ocean: The Dark Side’. The residency will last 60-90 days, and take place between 1 March 2021 and 31 December 2021. Artists from all over the world are invited to apply. Deadline: 31 May 2020.

Taepyung Salt Farm X LAMPLAB seeks artists to submit entries for the juried exhibition, ‘Art Like Salt’. The winners will be chosen to participate in a residency programme in Shinan, designated a ‘Slow City’, in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, with the opportunity to create work in any of the following formats: photography, video, installation, sculpture or sound, under the theme of ‘Anticipation for the Future’. The residency will take place over 12 weeks between June and November 2020. Deadline: 3 May 2020.

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) is pleased to invite applications for the 2020 MMCA International Research Fellowship. This is a four-month fellowship, running July – October 2020. The programme is open to the art professionals including curators, researchers, critics and educators from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Central and South America, who are interested in developing and sharing their research ideas related to Korean modern and contemporary art. Deadline: 3 May 2020.

Science Gallery Bengaluru seeks interactive, participatory works for Contagion, an exhibition that explores the phenomenon of the transmission of emotions, behaviours, and diseases. Proposals can be for artworks, video, performance, poetry, craft, sound, web-based work, socially engaged work, live experimentation, design, data sharing, etc. Applicants can also propose activities for a public programme around the exhibition. Proposals using digital platforms are especially sought. Deadline: 30 May 2020.

ARCUS Project’s artist-in-residence programme provides opportunities for emerging artists in the field of contemporary art to cultivate their artistic creativity and vision. In 2020, it will run 27 August – 4 December 2020 (100 days) at the ARCUS Studio located around an hour from Tokyo. There are two international residencies available: one for applicants who are Dutch or based in the Netherlands, and one for applicants who are not Japanese or Dutch nationals. Applications must have been born on or after 1 January 1980. Deadline: 12 May 2020.

The Asia Culture Center (ACC) in Gwangju, South Korea is calling for Asian choreographers to participate in their LAB incubator and produce a new creative work that addresses contemporary Asian perspectives and values. The successful applicant will be resident at the ACC for three months, July-September 2020. Deadline: 16 April 2020.
