The Singapore International Foundation’s (SIF) Arts for Good (A4G) Fellowship is an annual programme that brings together cross-sector professionals such as artists, arts administrators, creatives and programmers from the education and social sectors for a programme of experiential workshops, learning journeys and networking sessions. The theme of this year’s fellowship will be Creative Empowerment for Children and Youth. Activities will be spread across an exchange programme in Singapore (15-18 September 2020), a planning phase (September 2020 – January 2021), and a final exchange in Chennai, India (1-5 February 2021). The call is open to applicants of any age and nationality. Deadline: 26 April 2020.

Taking place on Japan’s Awaji Island, the Awaji Art Circus festival aims to bring more people to the island and to develop its arts and culture scene. AAC are calling for talented international artists from around the world to spend six weeks living on the island (16 September – 27 October 2020) and making work at its various locations. The call is open to artists of all performing arts genres, but artists will be working at multiple locations and often outdoors. Both groups (max. three people) and individuals are welcome to apply. V2_, Lab for the Unstable Media is an interdisciplinary centre for art and media technology in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). Its Summer Sessions are short-term international art and technology residencies for emerging artists and designers, taking place at institutions in six countries. Residencies last approximately eight weeks and take place between June and September. Applications are open to artists from the sponsoring countries: Taiwan, Spain, South Korea, Croatia, China, and Argentina. Deadline: 1 May 2020.

Birzeit University’s Faculty of Art, Music and Design is offering a residency opportunity for a creative practitioner in one of its programmes: ‘Contemporary Visual Art’ or ‘Design’. The resident artists will stay for two months at the faculty to conduct research and teach. The first residency will take place April – May 2020, and the second October – November 2020. Applicants should have a minimum of five years of experience in the fields of contemporary visual art or design. Deadline: 15 March 2020.

The YATOO International Artist in Residence Programme – organised in Gonju-si, South Korea – provides an environment in which artists are able to concentrate on their artwork while surrounded by beautiful, tranquil nature. Residencies last 1-2 months and take place in the period 6 April – 6 June 2020. The programme is open to artists working in open air sculpture or installation who are active in nature or interested in nature art. Deadline: 1 March 2020.

ACC (Asia Culture Center) in Gwangju, South Korea is inviting researchers and creators (performing artists, art & technology artists, designers, scholars) from across the world to participate in its 2020 residency programmes. Residency lengths vary but take place April-October. Deadline: 10 March 2020.

For the 2020 edition of its annual March Meeting, Sharjah Art Foundation is inviting artists, writers, researchers, curators and art practitioners to submit abstracts for papers relating to the overall theme, Unravelling the Present, or the event’s panel titles: Sharjah Biennial in Retrospect, Art and the Civic Imagination, The Biennial Nation, Sharjah Biennials in the Regional Context, Biennials and Postcoloniality, and Curating in the Age of Crises. Selected contributors are expected to attend MM 2020 and the panel discussions, 21-23 March 2020. Deadline: 23 February 2020.

The Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (IACS) programme lasts for three months, running 2 May – 15 August 2020. During the programme, awardees will be divided into six groups placed at different art centres located in six provinces: Bali, West Sumatra, East Kalimantan, East Java, South Sulawesi, and Yogyakarta. Candidates should be between the ages of 21 to 27 years old. Deadline: 14 February 2020.

The Center for Contemporary Art Kitakyushu, a world centre for study and research in contemporary art based in southwest Japan, operates a Fellowship Programme for young artists and researchers (up to the age of 40) working in art, curatorial work, design or architecture. The Fellowship Programme for 2020/21 runs from September 2020 to the end of March 2021. Deadline (extended): 6 April 2020.

A key project of Taipei Performing Arts Center, ADAM (Asia Discovers Asia Meeting for Contemporary Performance) works to build a network and platform for cross-culture cooperation and interdisciplinary work. The 2020 Artist Lab, open to artists of all disciplines and nationalities, will take place 19 July - 17 August 2020. The title is ‘On Site: Rehearsing Concurrence and Its (Im)Possibilities’, with artists invited to rethink site as ‘a method to create, as a situation to rehearse, and as a concurrent embodiment to inhabit among others’.
