PEN America’s Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) currently has several open job positions:

Senior Manager, Protection Programs

The senior manager for protection programs will drive forward ARC’s work to protect artists at risk around the world. The role will develop a new emergency grantmaking initiative and expand PEN America and ARC’s protection programs for individuals in peril because of their creative expression. The role requires experience working with individuals at risk or otherwise vulnerable communities, ideally in the protection field, and a demonstrated commitment to the arts and human rights internationally. This is a new full-time position expected to be based at PEN America’s New York office. The position reports to the Director, Artists at Risk Connection.

Senior Manager, International Programs

The senior manager for international programs will strengthen and lead ARC’s work to fortify and expand its international programs. The role will oversee ARC’s four regional representatives and hubs - including the Amani: Africa Creative Defence Network and PAR (Protección de Artistas en Riesgo) – América Latina y el Caribe - and expand their international reach in order to grow the network of organizations and individuals providing assistance to at-risk artists. The role requires strong management skills, and a demonstrated commitment to the arts and human rights internationally. This is a new full-time position, expected to be based at PEN America’s New York office. The position reports to the Director, Artists at Risk Connection.

Regional Representative for Africa

The regional representative for Africa will lend critical regional expertise to the ARC team and strengthen ARC’s hub in the region (which includes Northern Africa and sub-Saharan Africa), deepen existing regional partnerships and build new ones, and assist in cases of at-risk artists where needed. The ideal candidate will have strong independent project management skills, experience in coalition or network building, is already quite active in their own artistic or human rights community, and be eager to take on new projects and tackle challenges. This is a consultant position based in the region and requires a minimum one-year commitment.

Regional Representative for the Middle East

The regional representative for the Middle East will lend critical regional expertise to the ARC team and develop an active hub in the Middle East region, deepen existing regional partnerships and build new ones, and assist in cases of at-risk artists where needed. The individual may also assist with the Arabic translation of A Safety Guide for Artists. The ideal candidate will have strong independent project management skills, experience in coalition or network building, is already quite active in their own artistic or human rights community, and be eager to take on new projects and tackle challenges. This is a consultant position based in the region and requires a minimum one-year commitment.
